I have no idea who reads this blog haha(if you are reading this post, leave a tag later on!), but seeing that yesterday was our last performance with the whole choir, I want to make this post a little more.. personal. I doubt you will cry from reading this, but you have to understand that there will be a little David Archuleta, Owl City and Tumblr references haha!

Yesterday was a very long for me. It felt like it was 3 days! The morning was one day, the afternoon another and night yet another!

(yea. listen to the music to get the 'feel' lol)

Coming to school was a little rush for me. I left my house at around 10.45 and promptly left my finished cup of milk sitting on my bedroom floor. My dad sent me to school and I met up with Jerilene and WeiLin. I got the keys from Mrs Chew and from this point onwards, time seemed to speed up. After Genesis came, the three of us started counting money and oh boy! we were rich. Really rich. During lunch, the three of us eat outside the music room and the topic shifted to whether we were nervous.

I wasn't nervous to speak the truth. There's no point in worrying and being nervous. It just makes you feel worser by the second. I was.. somewhat just having fun. And yes, I had fun (:

Changing and practice. I was a little worried (ironic but..). You guys sounded somewhat tired. Ms Yin's last minute correction of things also prodded me a little.

Sleeping session on the bus. Let's not elaborate on that.

My first impression of SOTA is wow. I am impressed with the architecture and then *snap* I knew I had to focus. But the day was already starting to take its toll on me. I was having backaches and thigh aches. (I believe I'm old.) The warm up room was pretty huge and spacey. Somehow I felt Ms Yin was a little.. upset? I don't know. Rush for time I guess. Even in the room, Ms Yin was STILL correcting us. But at this point of time, no point worrying yea?

Waiting to go on stage. At this point of time, I have to admit, this year's SYF was very different from 2 years ago. Maybe it's because of the venue change. Maybe it's the people I'm performing with. Maybe it's because I grew up and matured. There's a different flavor. Being the first person to go on stage, I got the nerves. And then everything seemed to fast forward. I followed the staff to the stage, walked on to the wooden floor, not before doing a double-take. I SWEAR I HAVE NEVER, EVER SEEN THE STAGE BEFORE. NOT EVEN IN PICTURES. That's why. and HECK, THE ROOM IS SMALL. But to speak the truth, the acoustics were much better than I expected.

This is probably the first time I am saying this, but when I sing, I lose awareness of my

surroundings. I just sing and pour everything out, especially when it was a performance. My backaches and muscle aches mystically vanished. I obviously couldn't be a fair judge. So, after getting off the stage, I asked Claris who was in front of me, "How was the performance?" Claris shook her head. I was like oh nooooooo.

Let's skip the part where we were audience.

When we were coming out, I asked for the opinions of others. Erica said it was fine. Evangeline said the jap song lacked emotions. Jerilene said it was fine. It was not until Ms Yin said that we were good and decent despite the sharp, when I relaxed. So yay!

And then it hit me. The Sec4s just had their last performance. (Inserts whole bunch of things that I will reserve for later lol)

In the auditorium again, sitting in the 2nd row, waiting for the results. We were choir 072. The first to be announced was Choir 05_. Waiting and waiting. 5GWHs and 1COP had gone past. Choir 070. The 4 of us, Jerilene, Evangeline, Erica, and Me, were squeezing each other's hands. Genesis had her face in her face. And then, the moe coordinator(she's the moe coordinator for the SYF opening ceremony last year too) announced, "Choir number 72, Nan Chiau High School, Gold." Woah. We gave a slight scream and then subtleness. The first thing that came to me was, "Wow. A Gold. Wow.", not "Dang, we didn't get GWH.) Coming out, we broke the news to you guys. Honestly speaking, I wasn't expecting the reaction you peeps gave. (crying and stuff) I honestly thought you guys will be cheering for we actually got a Gold. And then someone told me that everyone was hoping for a GWH.

Everyone looks at the world from a different point of view. Each judge has their own set of rules and each of them look out for different things. SYF is different from Hong Kong. We only had 3 judges in Hong Kong - 3 judges to please. It's already difficult. We have 7 judges for SYF - 7 hearts to capture. Definitely not easy. WE WERE DEBATABLE. Haven't you noticed the judges took a longer time to discuss about our performance as compared to the next few schools?We definitely got a high Gold. It's awesome already! If our SYF was last year, or even last month, how would you think we have fared? Having grown and improved so much, you girls should really be proud of yourself. Many of us cried. I cried too lol. But, remember we should be grateful for anything we get, this is life. :) (I don't why I say this but..) CHEER UP AND SMILE.

Getting to the buffet was an epic drama. Will not elaborate on this, but I hope everyone had lots of fun! My initial idea was to have a section dinner with my lovely A2s (idea taken from band lol). So I told Erica and asked A2s only or Altos in general. Suddenly, we were planning a buffet for the WHOLE choir. One week to plan, and none of us having organise a buffet before, I must say it wasn't not THAT difficult? It was fun. (If you haven't paid, PAY UP. Dang, I sound like a loanshark.)

This quote is (Y). I truly hope that juniors, you guys can carry on and work hard! Spread the chorister identity with the sec1s. We may not have gotten what we hoped for but at least, we maintained our Gold. In the next SYF, I really hope that you guys can get us that long-deserving GWH and make all the practices and effort worthwhile! No pressure of course. (: Sad to say, us Sec4s won't be there for practices anymore but be rest assured, our hearts will always be with you and we will still definitely visit. (:

So strive hard when practice resumes! Dear juniors, please take the choir to the sky! (:

Hey choir! I am so proud that we got GOLD! We shall work harder for the next SYF for a GWH so no more tears okay?

Behind this gold, there were tears, laughter and most of all hard work and no one will understand the amount of effort put in. Miss Yin is very proud of us and we should be very proud of ourselves too!

We shall continue to work hard and the next batch will continue to rock on! :D

Hey guys! SYF is tomorrow! SYF is tomorrow! I am so excited, how about you?

I am sure that the choir can do it, we just have to imagine that the concert hall is the music room and we sing like we always do with 200% ! Why don't we continue the GWH streak after Drama?! Our choir can do it if we have heart and the brains! Don't get nervous or afraid, just sing like you're singing in the music room/string room and we can do it!

Well, lights out today at 10.30 and remember to report at 11.30 tomorrow. Do not be late. Please bring your scores,water bottles,gowns,make up,shoes and CHOKER! Do not forget to bring these items.

The big day is tomorrow and let's make the best out of it! After so many practices,time spent working on our techniques,hard work and tears, we must do it tomorrow! Let's show the world that we're awesomeeeeeee!

Hey guys! There are only 2 day left! Can you believe it? Today was the last practice before SYF and I am so excited, are you? I was very delighted with today's practice, however, Miss Yin said that we sounded tired. Therefore, get more rest and drink lots of plain water. On Thursday,once you come back from school, take a nap before you do your school work. After that, sleep early. Lights out at 10.30!

To achieve Gold for SYF, the 2 most important things are heart and brains. DO NOT forget to think before singing and always remember to put in feeling. For the Jap song, the Altos have to be less clear as the song is about the night rain. Also, for the Sop 2s, do not sound like a 'kaypo' auntie and have direction. For the French song, the Altos need to loosen up and the choir has to remember their dynamics. Lastly, for The Wind, pronunciation is important words as the judges will need to hear the words of the song and the words of the song must sound like English [Not singlish].

Regarding Friday, report to school by 11.30, all girls with long hair will have to bun up their hair before we reach school. The choir should be reporting in their Choir tee and pants. School shorts/shorts that are not super short/pants are allowed. Regarding shoes, we can wear sandals/school shoes/covered shoes.We would be having lunch in the canteen as a choir and only after that then we'll be doing our makeup and change of clothes. We will be doing our warm ups till 2.45 and we'll be heading to SOTA!

I am sure that we can make it and we should not get complacent so let's Gold! Also, be sure to thank our choir teachers for putting effort and time for designing the Owl Bags from Cotton On! They are so cool!

This is the last leg of the race, let's complete it with flying colors!

Hey guys! It's TUESDAY! Can you believe how time flies so quickly? Well, tomorrow would be the last practice for SYF so I want all our you guys to absorb and retain ALL the information and details taught by Miss Yin and put in your 200% effort in this practice.

In the meantime, please revise your scores and take good care of yourself! Drink lots of plain water and try to take vitamins so as to not fall sick. Also, take out your score to revise them. We're just 3 days away from the huge performance and we can't afford to slide back. We have to constantly improve and become better-er.

4days;1 practice!

Hey guys! Well, there are 4 more days left to SYF! Just for 4 days! During this 4 days, hydration and focus is key so do drink lots of fluids and focus on the 3 songs. If you happen to have some free time, simply go through the songs in your head, remembering all the details such as dynamics and pronunciation.

Today's practice was a AWESOME one. Being the second last practice till SYF, I could see that most of our choir mates put in their fullest attention and efforts into this practice. I am so proud of the choir as we have changed and improved drastically from the last 1 month. Even Miss Yin is proud too! Therefore, I feel that we should be striving for even better achievements. As Miss Yin mentioned, we should be ' better-er'. :D

Still, we should not be complacent. Even though our sound is good, we must still have to remember the techniques that Miss Yin has taught us. 'Old habits die hard'. If we do not cultivate good singing habits, we will not be able to achieve a good sound. At least with good singing habits, we would be able to produce a good sound even if we are uncertain.

Finally, Genesis suggests that we have a choir dinner after our SYF. So if you guys have any suggestions, please approach any of the seniors! See you on our final practice on Wed,4.00 in the music room/string room :D

5days, 2 practices.

Hey guys! How has your weekend been? I'm sorry that I've not been posting much, I will try to post as often as possible!

Well, the countdown has reduced to 5 days to our big performance! Just 5 days! We can do it!

In this blog post, I will be doing a summary of Friday's practice [8th April 2011] and Saturday's practice [9th April 2011].

Friday's choir practice:

We had a reality check where the SLs came up to access us on how our performance would be in SYF. We did not even get to clinch a gold with honors and we were slightly in the 'gold range'. Wake up! Our standard is way better than this! To achieve and maintain the standard of gold, we have to practice every morning and night! You can sing out loud or simply go through the song in your head, remembering all the dynamics, pronunciation and the emotion of the song. We cannot slide back down to where we were 2 months back. We have to be constantly improving and excelling for higher standards.

The pitch, firstly, determines each song. If you were to go out of pitch on your first note, the whole song will be sharp/flat, therefore, approach the first note with caution. Throughout each song, sustain concentration and interest. For example, in the Japanese song, remember the English meaning of the words and while singing, inject that feeling into the Japanese words. This also applies for The Wind and the French song. I am sure that most of the other choirs will lack this, therefore, to stand out, we have to show the judges that we understand the song and that we look beyond the obvious details.

Make sure that you know the song's every single detail and this has to be remembered by Monday! Singing on the SYF day is like presenting a dish of Fried Rice to the judges. We have to present a dish of tasty fired rice to the judges and not individual ingredients. To do this, we must not allow any room for the judges to minus any marks from us and importantly, we must know what Miss Yin's actions mean on stage! To prepare for our big performance on 15th April 2011, we have to stay focused. Go through the song in your head, remembering every single detail. If everyone does this daily, we will be able to reach our goals.

It takes one to bring the choir down but it takes the whole choir to bring the choir to new heights.
Saturday's Practice.
This practice was all about maintenance where we have to retain everything taught by Miss Yin.

Japanese Song

Direction is key! As Miss Yin had mentioned, if the first line of the song lacked direction, the other parts of the song will be bad resulting in a bad song.
This song is a visually and orally song where the song is shown through these aspects with a little bit of a bittersweet feeling. Therefore, no one is allowed to stand like a block of wood when the piano is playing! Feel the song!
This song is all about understanding the feelings of the composer and how he views god and the rain. To understand this, the choir has to understand the English meaning and put it into the song.
The sound for this song has to be clear but not piercing. The sound must be cushioned, round and forward.

French Song:

This song is all about listening. The choir tends to go sharp and to avoid this, we have to listen to each other.
For the choir, this song has to have freedom in emotion but the song cannot be sung out of control.
For the altos, loosen up! To get into the song's required emotion, we have to lighten up [but not go sharp!] and have heart.

The Wind:

This song is okay overall but the component that would bring us down would be our pronunciation. CHEW YOUR WORDS!
The words in this song also has to have emotion. Understand what you are singing!

Think and remember these key points from now and not wait till the last minute to revise them. Think about the music and let it take you away.

Hey choir mates! How's your wonderful Thursday? Firstly, I am extremely happy that more people are reading the choir blog and are motivated by it. Even Christina is doing her own countdown on Facebook. Good job guys! You deserve a golden star.

Please continue giving feedback and suggestions to improve this blog as the committee is looking into changing the blog skin and the format of this blog. I personally feel that the Cbox should be deleted and replaced with a comment box after every post to prevent very irritating blog walkers. What do you think? Regarding the format of the blog, does anyone of you girls know how to change the blog skin because I am a hopeless low-tech IT dinosaur. So, be sure to check back and recommend your friends to me if they do know how to change and improve this blog!

8 more days, girls! 8 MORE DAYS! You guys are currently at the last lap of your marathon and the finish line is in view. Be sure to encourage each other and persevere! I feel that morning practice can be, at times, tiring and boring but we must work hard because we should not waste all our time and effort that we have put in from last year till now. Well, you could always inject some fun into morning practice like listening to how wonderful Mr Neo speaks on the mike or simply just occasionally talk to your friend beside you and motivating her. Still, we have to stay focused during morning practice as these times are one of the precious practice times we have left.

About today's morning practice, I thought that the choir's sound blended well when we were singing chords.However, for the french song, the dynamics were not obvious enough! Please look through the score and remember where the dynamics are. Do not assume that all the dynamics are the same just because they sound the same. Also, please be reminding to memorize the meaning of the Japanese song so that the emotion of the song can be fitted nicely with the words. All these have to be done by tomorrow! For The Wind, I feel that the dynamics were also not obvious enough. Choir, we really have to step up our game in order to improve and reach for our goals!

Please be reminded that girls with long hair are to come into choir with their hair up in a hair net. Your hair has to be up before you come in to choir and it must be neat and tidy! If you to not have a hair net, it is available at affordable prices at Motif which is located at Compass Point or at Watsons. Also, all girls are to have their fringes pinned up neatly with no 'feelers' hanging at your sides. All clips and hairbands are to be dark navy blue or black and make sure that no strand of hair is covering your beautiful eyes.

Lastly, there will still be PT tomorrow. Please report at 6.50 in the canteen with your PE attire. If you guys have any games to suggest, you can always approach me or any seniors. We are very welcome to your ideas. I am still deciding on what the agenda is tomorrow, but most likely, we will be playing some games and doing some training to train our stamina. Also, please do not be afraid to do push-ups on the field as grass is not poisonous to your hands unless you are allergic to it.

Also, the choir wishes the NCHS Wind Orchestra all the best fortheir SYF which will be held tomorrow.

Hey girls! How has your Wednesday been? Well, I feel that today's PT was not intensive enough but it was fun! I hop you guys had as much fun as me and I'll think of better games to play on our next PT session. You girls can also suggest some games to play that involve the choir and encourage team bonding.

There is only 9 days left to our grand performance! The countdown has came down to a single digit number and soon, our SYF performance will come. I'm glad that more girls have been reading this blog. Use this blog as a form of motivation and inspiration to keep you going. Personally, I know that the choir can get a gold or gold with honors but the effort must come from each and everyone of you. Everyone plays a vital role and without each of you, this choir will not be possible.

We perform and do well for the choir and for ourselves. Miss Yin is just there to guide up the staircase of success but for the last few steps, it'll be up to us to decide and put in the effort to climb the remaining steps up to reach our goal. So why don't we finish what we have started on and finish this race with flying colors? I'm sure that we can to it together!

There will be morning practice tomorrow so be sure to report at 6.50 sharp. I am glad that most of you girls made it on time for today's PT session, however, for those that came late, make sure that you won't come late tomorrow. Try to remind your section mates to come and report on time! See you tomorrow, we shall start the day with music. :D

Hey choir mates! How has your week been going? Firstly, I would like to commend on the fact that Erica Ho is one of the very few that reads this blog which I painstakingly take time to post every single day for the countdown to SYF. Therefore, just take 5 minutes of your busy study schedule to read these blog posts and I'm sure that they'll help and motivate you in some way or another.

Another reminder is that morning practice resumes tomorrow and it'll be PT! So report in your PE attire with your shirt tucked in at the canteen. For tomorrow's agenda, we will be doing some short distance running and some games in the field. Please note that safety comes first! If you are not feeling well, you can always approach any of your seniors or me and we will excuse you from PT if you have a valid reason. Also, please try to report on time or even earlier. I know that I may be late for PT sessions some times, but I'll try my very best to make it on time.

Well, there are only 10 days left to the big day! 10 days! Soon, our SYF performance will come in a blink of an eye and I'm sure we'll do our best. For this to happen, one very important thing to do is to motivate your friends. Not just the ones beside you, but your choir-mates who are in your section. For example, you can sing louder or simply write small notes to give them as a form of encouragement. I honestly think that the choir should be more bonded, therefore, each section can go out for section lunch as a way to relax from your hectic lifestyle and simply get to know more about each other! Be sure not to eat any foods that will make your throat sore!

Remember to get loads of sleep and drink enough water! See you tomorrow at PT! :D

Hey guys! Today's choir practice was a awesome one, what do you think? We witnessed the SOTA stage for the very first time when Miss Yong showed us the photos and it consisted of orange, wood and more wood! Therefore, we should have a rough idea of the place and we must do our best!

To refresh your memory, we practiced at the quadrangle today. Remember the sound produced? Well, this will be a guide to how the sound would be at SOTA. Make sure that you can hear the person beside you. If not, ask that person to sing louder so that both of you would be able to encourage and support each other! Also, try to interact with your choir mates from the other sections especially in the French song.

Here are some of the things Miss Yin mentioned today that we should take note:

French Song: Dynamics! There are different dynamics at different parts of the song and they must be obvious!

Japanese Song: Remember to CHEW your words. Also, the intensity of the song must be present throughout the song.

The Wind: PRONUNCIATION! Please remember to pronounce the words of the sing properly and make it song like English and not Singlish!

Overall, I'm glad that Miss Yin mentioned that our sound was good today but we must not get complacent! We must keep on striving to work harder and after all, there are only 11 more days left to our big performance so why don't we focus and put our efforts into these 11days and our performance on the SYF stage. It will also be the Sec4s last performance with us, so why don't we do our best as a farewell gift to the Sec4s and wish them all their best for their upcoming major exams!

Please be reminded that there will be no morning practice tomorrow [5/4/2011]. Morning practice will resume on Wednesday and it will be Physical Training, so be sure to report in your PE attire. Also, report to choir on Friday with your hair up in a bun. This only applies to those with long hair and a hair net is required. For girls with short hair, clip up your fringe!

Hey guys! So how have your weekends been going? Studying hard? Well, don't forget to revise your scores especially the pronunciations, dynamics and emotions of each song! As you can see, SYF is slowly nearing so get focused on your goals! Its a one-time chance as it is the first and last SYF performance for many of us and therefore, we should take this one and only chance and put all our efforts into it and perform! I'm sure that we can do it!

One of the most important things to being able to put up our best performances is health! Please take care of your voices and bodies. Make sure that you guys do not fall sick so that all your efforts and time spent practicing have not gone to waste. The most important tool for a choir is their voices! Therefore, we should take extra care with it!

I found this on the internet that drinking some hot tea with honey and lemon will help cure your injured voice. But most importantly, WATER IS MOST IMPORTANT! Drink lots and lots of plain water and that will be the best remedy in protecting and healing your voice in preparation for SYF.

Lastly, don't be afraid to step outside the box especially in choir practice. SYF is a once-in-a-lifetime experience so make the most out of it and don't be afraid to sing out loud!

Countdown to SYF

Hey guys! Firstly, I will be trying my best to post everyday till SYF. This posts will allow you to be motivated and allows you to reflect about the choir practices. I am sure that our choir will be able to reach our goals if we give our best efforts because we do have the quality,potential and talent!

Choir practice on Friday was a very efficient one where we were able to work on new things like emotion for our song. However, Miss Yin still had to remind us on some areas of the song, like dynamics, in some parts of the 3 songs. Remember that if we really absorb these things, we will be able to have more time for new things! It is really important because time is running short and these things can determine our results for SYF. Still, I was very happy that we remembered the pronunciation for the French song and the emotion of the song was great. :D

Still, don't get complacent and always find time to revise your scores, no matter in school or at home. Just take 10minutes from your time to take out those scores and going through them once, reading and remembering what you wrote on the scores. You can also try to sing out loud in your heart.

We have the talent to get a gold so we must have a gold attitude too! Be a fighter and not a loser! GOLD ALL THE WAY!

HEY CHOIR.
I know choir practice sucked big time today but we have to buck up and really work hard for our Gold. It's not easy to get a Gold and definitely not that hard either. As long we are willing to work hard, the Gold is ours :D so just take every scolding or nagging in a positive manner. Learn from it, and move on. Dont give up especially when we're soooooo near to the end, just endure a little more and we can have a good break w/o any regrets, okay? ((: JIAYOU, we can do it!

Hey Choir!

Happy New Year! :D I am sure that choir will climb to greater heights this year so we have to put in a 150% and do our very best!

Remember our last practice of 2010? The one where we had the heart to heart to Miss Yin and for some of us, to Charmaine. Well, what we discussed then were very important to not only the committee, but each and everyone of you choir members out there. Every single person plays a vital part in building this choir. If one person stops working hard, the whole choir will be slowed down by this one person.

We shall kick of the new year with a great choir practice with us putting in our heart, soul and brains to put a smile on both Miss Yin's and our faces.

Lets keep these important tips on our mind:

-Lift! Smile! Raise!
-USE YOUR BRAIN!
-Focus!
- Think positive! Its okay to make mistakes but mistakes cannot be repeated once those mistakes are corrected!
-Open your mouth and sing!

Hey Choir!

A job well done. A Gold, 1 out of 3 choirs. :D You all must be elated yeahh? So am I. Butbutbut, don't be complacent.
SYF's our main goal, this competition is only a practice. The standard in SYF is way higher. :)
And remember, results only comes with hard work, we'll need to work harder if we wanna get Gold with Honors for SYF!

Please no more heart attacks. From Bronze 2 weeks ago, to Gold. I'm not saying this so that you guys can nua off and only work hard 2 weeks before SYF. We're not always that lucky. But you guys should maintain the Gold standard all the way.
Make Ms Yin's and each & every of our choir life fun.

And no, Ms Yin still loves us. :D

Hope that you guys have learnt a lot from this Winter Choral Festival, in terms of values (Responsibility, PUNCTUALITY) and chorale things. I enjoyed myself during that 5 days, and I hope you guys did too! :)

Just wanna say some more stuff here.

1. Hair

Okay. Hair is important for the 2 performances Who cares about the rest of the time lol.

For the competition, Ms Yin wants everyone's hair to be neat and tidy. This is so important. We need to leave a good first impression. So we have decided that:

For all with long hair(your hair is considered long as long as it touches your shoulder), your hair must be tied in a neat bun. Your fringes have to be tied to the back as well. This is pretty standard. So if you need hair nets of hair clips, go get them tmr. :) Your rubber band and hair clips etc must be black. No other colours allowed.
Those with short hair(like me), slightly different this time. Your fringes must to clip to the side, not back. Hair clips will be provided by teachers but prepare some in case.

Besides these, if we find your hair untidy, we WILL come to you and spray your hair with hairspray. :)

So if you have the time, just experiment with your hair a little lol. :D

2. Some girl stuff you know..

I'm not comfortable with this but no choice. Ms Yong says that, if you have that once-in-a-month thing, pls bring sufficient *ahems*, yea. :)

3. Liquids

Kindly rmbr, NO LIQUIDS ALLOWED ON YOUR CARRY ON. :) Cream is considered as liquids too. If your medication is liquid, try to get the pill type instead. If you need water, pack them in TRANSPARENT containers of sizes not more than 100ML. If not, check it in! No one cares about your check in unless there's explosives in it.

4. Weather

My mum just told me that the temperature on Tuesday and Wednesday gonna be quite low because of winds from the north. Apparently it's gonna be 9degrees Celsius in Taipei, the temperature in Hong Kong won't be much higher. I checked. Lowest temperature on Tuesday is 15 and Wed is 13. Pack enough warm stuff pls.

5. Pls take care of your self these few days. There are a few getting sick (I'm having a weird fever lol and happens once in a while). Take care, drink lots of water. Bring lozenges if you must.

6. Scores

Bring all your 3 songs and the syf piece. :) Don't bring your whole choir file. Just a folder will do.

7.Money

200 sing will do. CHANGE IT TO HONG KONG DOLLARS FIRST.

8. Internet

I'm not too sure if there's free internet at the hotel but no 3G pls, unless you can afford. Only use your internet when you are 100% sure that there is free wifi.

9. Groupings.

Bold are the leaders of each group.

Hahaaa. I wanna share this because I want to make the total number of things I wanna say 10. LOL. Kay. My dad says that our flight is a A380 flight. Yea, A380. HAHA. :) LOL.

Hi Choir :)

You guys needn't know who's typing this, but if you have posting access to the blog then you'll probably know who is it. But yeah, you guys don't need to know.

I've recently heard stuff about the current state of choir, and it's really worrying. Many of you haven't been through the vigorous practices, and many of you probably dismiss Ms Yin's scoldings. I hope that won't be the case, because it's really precious that Ms Yin is still with us. She's really a great conductor, and you guys should be thankful that she's our conductor and not some other random conductor conducting us. Be thankful, and please listen to her. Retain what she's taught you guys, it's seriously frustrating that she has to teach the same things over and over again for each practice.

I hope that none of you think of choir as just a CCA, or just an avenue to get that bonus two points off your O Level score. I hope that singing in a choir is a passion, and not a I-got-allocated-into-choir-so-I'm-in-choir kind of thing. I know the school doesn't place an emphasis on CCAs, but I hope that you girls will keep the choir spirit going.

You might not know the seniors who built this choir, but think about it, if not for the seniors, you wouldn't be in a gold choir now. And for that, please always remember that the seniors are pinning their hopes on you, and that you girls must never let them down no matter what.

Hi Choir,

This should be the last time i'm posting here :(
There will be no more updates from me.
Thanks for making today's performance a success :D I know the route wasn't easy and you all endured a lot of nagging, scolding etc from your SLs.. but all this paid off choir :D
I know i'll feel empty on mondays and fridays now coz i will not be walking to the String or Music Room to sing with you all :(

Choir has been an awesome CCA :D It changed me to a different person, giving me many opportunity to try out many different things :D Thank you Miss Yin, Miss Yong, Mrs Chew, Mrs Ong and Mrs Hoo :D

Altos, I'm sorry i may have been harsh with you all at times, esp my dearest alto twos.
But i love you all. Take Care and Sing well okays? I'll go back often :D

Hi girls, it has been some time since i posted. Well, this will probably be the last post i am writing in this blog. After tomorrow, i'll bid farewell til we meet in the investiture. Sound so sad. Hahas. For the sec fours, as i have written in the letters i 've given you, its our last performance. LAST. I'm not kidding. Its like so fast? Hahas. Fours years, all the times spent together, blah blah blah, yes life in NC definitely includes NC Chorale. [For the juniors, you might not understand all the thoughts most seniors are having now. Time will prove it all.] For tomorrow, i hope everyone will put in their 200% to stop talking, to think about the music and SMILE til your cheeks hurt. I believe all, yes i mean ALL of you can do it. Always challenge yourself to make yourself improve. You girls look great. Not kidding. And i am sure that everyone, will shine out brightly tomorrow. Just relax and enjoy the limelight on stage. You have a long way to go tomorrow. Rest well and I'll see all of you tomorrow! :D

Take note on the schedule that 9 April is a full dress rehearsal and you must be in your gown,shoes,choker and bun tied up. Please be reminded that there is a FULL DRESS REHEARSAL. The meeting room will be opened at 2:30pm for you all to change. Please be ready by 2:50pm! remember to bring your GOWN,CHOKER & SHOES! There is NO need for your hair to be bun up and also NO make up is required. Sec ones, do rmb to report at the meeting room ta 2:30pm too :D

Friday ( Anniversary)

Sec Ones : Since you are not performing, pls report to the meeting room in FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM ( Bring your tie along :D) @ 3:30pm sharp.

Sec twos to fives :D : Pls be properly attired by 3:30pm!! That means you are to be changed and you hair MUST BE BUN UP BY THEN! If you do not know how to bun, pls come earlier, with a thin rubber band and many many hairclips so that we can help you bun your hair!! :D Make up will be put on at a later time :D Don't worry, we'll give you time for that :D You can come to school in half u or choir tee with skirt :D oh! Hi girls! Looking forward to camp? :D Please take note that there will be a short briefing on camp tomorrow, RIGHT after school in the music room. COMPULSORY FOR ALL!!!

a short note to those who have not heard Ms Kong saying CHOIR's performing for the public concert, just a confirmed note, we ARE PERFORMING. she might just missed out or what, don't misunderstood kaes.

and for the secondary ones, i think there is a little mistake that Amanda wrote in her post. You will not be able to perform in the school anniversary for this time since your gowns are not made yet. HOWEVER, you will need to be present for practice on friday, as we are also training all of you for the public performance. [You will be performing for the public concert.] The venue will be at the meeting room on friday, so please do not go into the music room kaes. and after the rehearsal, you would need to do up a reflection on the senior's performance on that day and bring it to camp on monday as we have practice scheduled inside. It would be great if you did your work and memorised the songs as you will need it soon anyways. Please do take the initiative to ask your Sectional Leaders or any seniors when you are in doubt of any part of the song. Do not be afraid to voice your doubts as it will help you to improve.

Most of you should have received the schedule for March by now, if not pls find Leona.
If you miss the briefing by Miss Yong, I'll briefly post it here.

#1: Choir Camp is on 15 March and 16 Mrach. It is a stay over camp. Consent Form will be given at a later date. If you can't go, please inform your SLs or Leona.

#2 : Attendance. You will all notice that March has many practices in preperation for School Anniversary and Public Performance. For School Aniversary, we will be singing 1 song and 3 songs for public performance. Attendance is compulsory for all and inform your SLs in advance if you can't make it. Only 2 Parents Letter will be accepted each term unless it's MC.

Common Test is round the corner, so everyone, do work hard :D Jiayous!!!!
We'll sing again after common test!

Anyways, 19feb (tomorrow's) choir practice will be cancelled due to the sports heats. so whoever are running for any events better make some mark to not waste this practice kaes.

However, i need you girls to meet in the music room IMMEDIATELY AFTER SCHOOL for a shot briefing by Ms Yong for the practices next month and the camp in March.

Please do revise your songs at home or we'll have difficulty catching up 1 month's work. Don't forget we are performing for the school's anniversary and public concert. so if we are not up to standard, i would require all of you to come back for practice during sat or even staying back after school for more practice. Do be hardworking!

The schedule has been updated, so please take a look if you have not gotten a hard copy from me yet :)

Announcements:
1) From today onwards, attendance will be marked strictly. If you did not report by 30mins after choir starts, you will be marked as a zero attendance. No late comers will be attended anymore. (rule set by the school) All teachers are notified, so if you have any remedials, please ask your subject teacher to write a note to Miss Yong.
2) PRACTICE on 12FEB is CANCELLED. (Its cny eve's eve so enjoy yourselves!! ;D)
3) PUBLIC PERFORMANCE DATE is set on 10 APRIL at the NANYANG POLYTECHNIC'S AUDITORIUM, whereas REHEARSAL is on 9 APRIL [so please keep your afternoon til night free].

Upcoming concerts:

Firstly, i would like to welcome Mrs Hoo & Mrs Ong to join our family! *claps claps*
Thanks for helping us yesterday at such a chaotic event :D hope we'll work well and bring the choir to a greater height :))

Secondly, I'm very pleased to announce that we have gotten 62 names for audition! *claps again* Although we didn't have a chance to sing yesterday, I would still like to thank all the members for giving out the flyers enthusiastically and asking people to join us. All your efforts is appreciated. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! (hope you still have voice to sing tomorrow xD)

For the sec 1s, audition dates are as follow:

Hi choir,

How do you feel about yesterday's performance? I think there were good and bad. Agreed?
Anyway, It's over! I would say our hard work did pay off, especially from the last 2 practices. Can we keep this up? Don't only make it the last 2 practices before the performance. Make it every practice! Then the choir will go further and sing better! I hope all of you enjoyed yourself singing and gaining a little more confidence with yourself. Also, let's thank Miss Yin for her patience and guidance throughout even though we pissed her off so many times :), Mrs Chew for her unwavering support throughout and all the coordination she did to make this concert a success and lastly, Mr Qiu who never fails to play the piano beautifully. Have a good rest and you all have another performance next week!

Hi choir,

Please make the following changes to your schedule.

9 December - Sectionals from 9am-12nn
10 December - Practice from 10am-5pm with a lunch break in between
Please inform your SLs if you can't make it for any practice and submit a parent's letter or MC the next time.

*Additional Practice maybe added to prepare for the performance next week depending on the progress of the Choir.

Choir, your performance is just next week. Do you think we're well prepared? Have you done your part? Ask yourself. Please do not anger your SLs and of course Miss Yin anymore. Take note of what they are saying, revise before you come for practice nad memorising the songs. It won't take up a lot of your time. I believe none of you enjoyed practice yesterday right? But we can't let our mood control the quality of the each practice. Each practice is barely 3 hours, please make full use of them and don't forget everything that has been done the previous practice, you get tired, so does Miss Yin, but she's always hanging there and we should too. We have only 2 practice with Miss Yin before the performance, the outcome of the performance lies in your hands.

I have read all your feedbacks and would wish to summarise a little about it here.
Thank You for all the feedback and suggestions. I really found them useful :D

Well, I would want to thank the SLs for working so hard to take the sectionals, you have been doing a great job ;) i received much compliments :D so i would like to take this chance to thank The Joyces, Eugenia, Jerilene, Denise especially Shu Wei and Charmaine. It was mentioned that Charmaine, as a sec 1, she is brave enough to stand up there to take a section and Shu Wei, with no music background could actually handle the section so well and we could see that the sop 2s are improving, and i believe, quite bonded as i see many wrote "sop 2s rock" that kinda thing on the paper :D thats great and really heartwarming to see that :)) Other than that, i also receive good comments about members who sing out loud such as Erica, Li Yi and Denise, etc. So people, keep up the good work! ;) I do not deny that there are bad comments, but i have taken note of that and would try to improve on them :)

our performances are coming up, one after another so please do not slack people! after the esplanade performance, we still have the sec 1 registration concert, the cca day and the public concert of the school. so motivate yourselves to move on, although i know recently its very tiring for you to have sectionals and practices for five hours a day, but think positively! after you have gone through this rough patch you will have a better mindset and we could progress further! this do not only apply to choir but to your studies and daily life too. just think that you can do it and you can. the esplanade performance is just a short period of 2 weeks, 14 days away, lets buck up together alright!! :D

for 16 DEC, there will be a bus to take us to and fro the esplanade, so don't worry about the transport! ;)] the bus will leave school at 4.30pm sharp and return to school at 9.30pm.

for 23 DEC, we will be performing in the hall for the sec 1s as its their registration concert.

Hi Choir,

How was the games day yesterday? I'm so sorry that we are not able to hold the annual camp this year because of the performance on 16 December, but I really hope that the games day yesterday was a good replacement. From the tags, i believe some of you had a great time, so even though we were very tired, we still enjoyed it very much ourselves as the organisers.

Firstly, I would like to thank all the helpers yesterday, as without you, Jie Yi and I will be running around like mad women to get the games ready(hahas!) and most importantly, all of you who attended to make the games day a successful one.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! :D

Secondly, I would like to apologise to all of you who brought all the stuff that we told you to, but in the end we did not use it, I'm sorry. The plan was actually to play water games in the quadrangle, so we had to ask all of you to bring so many things, but unfortunately the weather did not help us, so the plans changed :(

Lastly, i want to emphasize what i have mentioned yesterday during the debrief that I hope nobody will bear grudges to anyone as all the things we have done yesterday was just for fun. Please don't be offended if anybody did something that you think was offensive. We don't mean any harm alright? :)

So now, lets work hard together as a team, towards our performance on 16 December. Then maybe, i said MAYBE, we will have a chance to go on a trip overseas next year end.. Provided we see that you girls are always on your best behaviour, doing what is required in EVERY practice ;)

By the way, please promote our performance at the Esplanade to your family members and friends kaes.. Details are as follow:

Give yourself a pat on the back for today!:D Though it's not very good,but at least it's accepatable..But bear in mind, it's time to train up your stamina, did you all realise you were all not as good at the 2nd performance??? I guess you all were tired..At Esplanade, there is also 2 performances, we can't be good for only one..Both should be equally good or even better!! Yesterday's practice may not have been as great..But don't give up okays?
All you all need is a little more perseverance and pay more attention to Miss Yin and your SLs..You all can do it as long as you put in your best..The esplanade performance is coming up in about a month's time, I hope that all of us will shine at the concourse on that day as we enchant the audience with great music..For now, let's all gear up for next Saturday's Open House! Sec Ones, I believe this will be your first time singing at a performance..Don't be afraid of the audience, feel the music in you and let it drive your fear away! Let's work hard together as a Choir alrights?? I know you all can do it!!

Hi Choir,

As Mr Ong announced during assembly today, CCA will be suspended to allow us time
to prepare for our exams. As such,practice this Friday is CANCELLED!
Practices will resume after the exams..Further Notice will be given at a later date..

Next, take a break from all the studying and do up a design for our Choir hoodie if you have any great ideas..Submit your design to JieYi ( Class 3C) by next week ok?? Those with ideas comes forward and submit your ideas, so we can have a nice Choir Hoodie!!

Till we Sing again, do take care and mug hard for your exams..

Adding on to Amanda's post,

Please do keep your mid-december free, if your do not have travel plans yet. Those whose parents are still thinking if you are going overseas, please discuss with them and push back the travel plans to after 20th dec :)

as Amanda have mentioned, we will be performing at the ESPLANADE CONCOURSE!!
and this is a rare opportunity, as well as a platform to showcase our talents.
also, this might be a chance to prove to everyone that we can manage our time well, so that next year we could go overseas to compete. Sec 3s who have gone to Genting before should know that this is a trip worth to be working hard for and this time, we will be going somewhere further and the teachers are really working hard to achieve this chance for us, so do them proud ok!

we really hope everyone could attend! so please, keep those days free...

however, please do not only work hard when there are performances or competitions.
the last few practises were like a roller-coaster ride. do you wish to continue it?

please do rethink of your motivation in choir. what do you wish to achieve?
this has been mentioned many times and i believe everyone is sick and tired of hearing it, so if you hope that the nagging will stop, do your part. prove to us that you don't need reminders ;D

As the saying goes: Rome was not built in one day.

so how do we perform on stage is depending on the practises we have. are we just going to waste practise after practise like that? then what is the point of having practise? we will only annoy Ms Yin and the ones who suffer are us. so, if we don't practise well, this performance might be a downfall of nc chorale, so please, think it through thoroughly k.

Hi choir,

It's me again:)
As most of you might know,we are being invited to sing at Esplanade's Concourse in December this year!!! As Miss Yin said,from now till then,we'll have to put in a lot of hardwork in learning up the songs and perfecting them..I'm sure we can do it as a Choir together just like we did for SYF! I hope this will motivate all of us to put in our minds and souls for this upcoming performance.

Alrights, after all my crappings, to facilitate Mrs Chew to schedule the dates for practices, please find out your travel plans and report to Mrs Chew on MONDAY..

hi choir.. i know this is a little late but its better than never post it up so heres the word of yesterday..
[ hahas.. continuing tradition? ]

Dipthong- a word with more than 1 vowel sound (eg. bright, beautiful)

be careful when you pronounce those dipthongs when singing. especially in the new song we are learning. remember to give all the vowels the same weightage k :)

Investiture

The investiture was completed today. Sorry, many feelings overwhelmed me today and I know I very unglam crying while doing the speech. Sorry. so, just for the priviledge of those who did not listen carefully, i repeat the speech here again...

[i want to add on to thank the committee members who have helped out in any part of the investiture. Thank you very much!]

Good Afternoon choir! Just want to thank all of you who are present today to attend the annual choir investiture. It is my honour to open you with this speech. Firstly, I want to thank those who have voted Jie Yi and me to be the vice president and president of choir. We do not know if you are used to the way we work, but we hope that you would give us your fullest support. We will definitely work hard and strive to be better. Jie Yi is on MC today, so I shall take her place to start the programme.

Do you still remember the days when we were all so disheartened when we did not sing up to standard? Or the days we had fun singing the three pieces joyfully? I am sure every one of you does. Today we shall commemorate all the things we have done together, during the time when we had laughter, joy and tears in our singing. Most importantly, enjoying the times when we perform on stage. On behalf of choir, I would like to thank all the seniors, for their hard work and guidance to us in these few years, to clinch another Gold award in SYF.

Not forgetting, Ms Yin, for your overwhelming love that you’ve showered on us, never giving up on us and everything you’ve taught us, though we angered you at times. Also, our beloved teachers in charge: Mrs Chew, Mrs Sim and Ms Yong. We will never forget what you have done for us, organising different various events allowing us to sing at different situations to gain experience and be a better singer. Today, as we bade farewell to Mrs Sim, we would want to let you know that choir will always be with you. Even though you may no longer be one of our teachers in charge, you will still hold a special place in the heart of Nan Chiau Chorale.

Lastly, I would hope that all of you, especially the seniors will enjoy the programmes we have lined up for you. Thank you!

As the emcees have mentioned, my purpose up here now is to thank Mrs Sim. Firstly, on behalf of choir, I would like to thank you very much for your support in this 2 and half years. We are really reluctant to see you go, but be sure that we will never forget you! Thanks a lot for your encouragements when we had an upcoming performance or competition. The time that you sacrificed to spend with us, like the trip to Genting Highlands, the extra practices we put in, etc. Thank you very much. Thank you for your gifts, thank you for your care and concern that you showered us with. Thank you. You will be deeply missed by all of us present, but no worries! You can still visit us when you are free! The door of NC Chorale will forever be opened for you to come back. Moreover, we can still see you during school hours! So there are still plenty of chances to meet up! See you again in school!

Limelight 2009 : World Harmonies by Nanyang Girls High Choir
Date : 29 Jul 2009(Wed)
